Workplace Pensions & Auto Enrolment

Under new rules, every employer must give their workers the opportunity to join a workplace pension scheme. This affects every workplace and means that every worker has a chance to save for their retirement.

This is known as Auto Enrolment and must be completed by a certain date – it’s the Law! If you don’t know your staging ‘start’ date, contact us and we can identify this for you.

The pensions regulator has set down guidance to help employers meet their deadline. As such, employers should commence their auto enrolment process 12 months before their staging date. This enables the process to be set up effectively and efficiently and should prevent fines from being imposed.

How long will it take to set up a scheme?

This depends on:

  • how many workers there are in your organisation
  • how many different pay periods you have for your workers
  • how much variation you want to make in what different workers get

For SME’s we recommend starting at least twelve months before your staging date.
